Michael Finney finds out about a new product that takes
disposable cameras to the next level. It's a self-timer
which allows everyone to get in the picture. Sounds
useful, but does it work?
A little device called, Picture Yourself comes with
a tripod and a timer. It's pretty cool looking, but
is it worth buying?
Down at fisherman's Wharf, 7 On Your Side shows the
Picture Yourself to a family visiting from New Jersey.
They get the concept right away.
Bob Stokes, New Jersey tourist: "It looks like
a little tripod that you hook up to your camera. You
do something to it and hope you all end up in the picture."
A quick study he is... So we unwrap the Picture Yourself.
While Dad looks on, Brendan and Andrew attach the camera
to the device — there's a simple velco strip for
that job.
Michael Finney sets up the camera on a newspaper rack
and pushes the button. They were all set and ready to
go — and nothing!
That was the first time, so they reset the device and
went for it again. They got the same result: nothing.
Michael Finney re-straps the camera more carefully
this time, placing the timer over the button and tries
again. This time it works.
They took several more timed photographs. The Picture
Yourself was working like a charm. Everyone agrees to
meet back in an hour while Michael Finney takes the
photos in for fast developing.
The photos came out pretty sharp.
Michael Finney thinks Picture Yourself is worth buying,
even if just for the entertainment factor.
Picture Yourself retails for $9.95 and should be turning
up in stores soon. It is also available on the Internet
at http://www.joyinnovations.com.
